Download Tirso's Story about Dr. Brooks.
The Arthur L. Brooks Center was founded in 1985 to enhance the education of residents and medical students and to facilitate clinical research and continuing medical education by providing educational resource in Orthopaedics. Serving as the public relations arm of the department, the Brooks Center is also a centralized point for all publications, posters, lectures and CME. Dr. Arthur Brooks spent most of his professional life at Vanderbilt. He graduated from Vanderbilt Medical School in 1952, completed his residency here in 1958, and was a member of the faculty from 1963 to 1984. A Pioneer in Orthopaedic surgical procedures, Dr. Brooks (pictured above) also dedicated himself to graduate medical education.
The mission of the Brooks Center is to provide educational resources in Orthopaedics, to aid the Orthopaedics faculty and residents in developing clinical research programs and in organizing, retrieving and analyzing the data they generate. The Brooks Center also maintains the lines of communication between Orthopaedics Department and its former residents, colleagues in the academic and private sectors, and those in other departments of the medical center and the university who have a legitimate interest in the department's activities. The above goals are achieved by providing photographic and artistic illustrations for lectures and publications; by coordinating continuing education programs directed by the Orthopaedics faculty such as the Resident selection program, the VOS Hillman lectures; and by publishing departmental brochures and internal and external newsletters.
The Brooks Center provides various services designed to support the Orthopaedics faculty and residents. Such services are as follows:
- Graphic Design and web development
- Scanning of x-rays, photographs and slides
- Design and production of printed materials
- Photographic and artistic illustrations
- Software Training for graphics programs
